Nestled in the heart of Riversdale, Kaplyn was born from a simple idea — to create a space where men could feel at home while taking a moment for themselves.

Riversdale may be small, but it’s full of heart. Being 80km from Mossel Bay, we saw a need for a place where men could walk in without an appointment, enjoy a fresh haircut, a beard trim, or even a hot towel treatment — all while relaxing in a space that feels like a true mancave.

In September 2023, Kaplyn Barbershop opened its doors, offering men not just grooming services, but a place to unwind, connect, and enjoy a moment of just being. Between the buzz of the clippers and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, customers could browse our retail range — finding the perfect gift for a weekend braai, a treat for themselves, or something special for someone they love.

Just over a year later, in November 2024, we expanded our dream and opened Kaplyn Salon. Designed with the same care and attention to detail, it’s a space where women can relax, be pampered, and spend quality time doing what makes them feel beautiful. Our gifting range has grown too, making Kaplyn a one-stop destination for grooming, self-care, and thoughtful gifts.

The name "Die Kaplyn" carries a story of strength and identity. In Afrikaans, “Die Kaplyn” refers to a physical clearing or "cutline" in the border between South West Africa (now Namibia) and Angola, created during the South African Border War to help detect and track guerrilla forces.

Hence the pun: to clear the Kaplyn is to get the hair out of your eyes to see the world around you better.

It’s both literal and symbolic: just as the original “Kaplyn” allowed people to see the world more clearly and stay alert, at our Kaplyn we give people a moment to clear their heads, refresh, and be ready for what the day may bring.
